On this page, you will also find the local weather and some information on local items of interest. Elite Soccer, Livermore?s High Comp Program, will once again be hosting tournaments for Gold, Sliver and Bronze level teams. These tournaments build on the highly competitive tournaments hosted during last season. September 29 & 30 will see the return of the ?Elite Fall Classic? for U-12 through U14 Boys as well as U-12 and U-14 Girls. This is a ?bronze? level tournament. Later in the Fall, Livermore will host the ?Elite Halloween Classic.? This highly popular tournament, October 27-28, welcomes Gold and Silver level Boys teams in the U-12 through U-14 age groups, as well as Girls teams at the U-12 and U-14 age groups, also at the Gold and Silver level. ?For 2007, we have taken a more focused approach to our tournament schedule,? explains Greg Calton, LYSL Tournament Director, ?we have reduced the number of tournaments we are hosting from four to two. At the same time, we have increased the number of teams that will participate in each of the tournaments.? The competitiveness of last year?s tournaments was high, with a number of teams that played in them going on to the ?Round of 16? in State Cup or Association Cup play, including our own Elite Titans, who were State Cup finalists. Our tournaments also reflect the highly cooperative nature of the relationship between LYSL and the Livermore Referee?s Association (LRA). Last year?s tournaments boasted a near 100% coverage of every game, with Championship and Consolation games also including a fourth official. This figure compares favorably with the 60% or less coverage that had been reported from other local clubs for their tournaments. Additionally, our referees have started a tradition of performing the ?International Walk-On? for every game ? contributing to the friendly atmosphere and professionalism of the tournament. Both the players and their fans enjoy this added level of ceremony. Another improvement over previous years is the reduction of venues. In the past, age groups were spread over as many as five different venues throughout the city. Last tournament season we were able to reduce the number of venues to two, Kellman Fields and Robertson Park. The change meant that referees and tournament officials did not have to spend a lot of time in their cars going from site to site officiating games. Additionally, with a tighter schedule running constant games, snack bar revenues became better for host teams. The addition of a third playing field on the turf area of Robertson, as well as the use of the lighted fields, made the change possible.
