SCRIMMAGES AND NON-FALL SEASON GAMES - For teams that wish to request field space for scrimmages, contact the Director of Operations. Fall NorCal games fields costs are by the league; scrimmage are paid by for the team. Robertson fields are $25/hr; others $5/hr. Field List

REMINDER: Please keep in mind that any organized use of the fields without permission jeopardizes LYSL's position with LARPD.  Coaches are also reminded to not hold any practice sessions until authorized to do so by LYSL.

NOT A LIVERMORE FIELD BELOW...yet... But we do need more fields in town. What we REALLY need is a sports complex that all groups can benefit from.

Be part of the solution! Join our Field Committee!

FIELD INITIATIVE - There are not enough fields for everyone organization that wants to use them. The league board is working on trying to improve short-term and medium-term goals to help find the soccer teams enough decent space to have practice and games. We are trying to form a field committee to work on those and bigger, long-term goals to get a sports complex. We need more dedicated people to help the league and its member meet their goals. Please volunteer to help out. We will be glad to give details to those that contact us. [click here for more information]

GOALS

Goal, Nets, and Flags are for schedules games and tournaments only. They are not permitted to be used for practices or non-LYSL sanctioned games. Before the season begins coaches are given the combination for the goals and the key to the locked net boxes.

The different types of goal setups for fields:

U5-U6 teams do not use traditional goals. They use flags/cones to mark the corners of the field and "goal posts". The emphasis is about being a team, ball handling, basic game mechanics, and directions.

U7-U10 fields have the medium sized silver goals. These come in three parts (two sides and one crossbar). When they are put together properly, pins will click in to secure the structure. They are easy to put together and move from their storage spot to the goal areas marked on the fields. Nets are held to the goal structure with velcro.

U12-U19 fields have the fully assembled goals that do not come apart (at least on purpose). They have wheels attached for even easier movement to set up and store.

There are times when some of the fields have the older three-part goals (two sides and one crossbar) that need to be assembled to set up and disassembled to store after the games. In 2006, this is true for the Robertson Park turf field.

Goal Setup - The team parents that are first to arrive for the days' games need to set up the goals. This is the responsibility of the parents on both teams. Coaches are encouraged NOT to set up the goals themselves, but to focus on the pre-game activities with the players. Players are NOT to setup and store goals for safety reasons. They too should be focused on preparing and playing the games. Parents and spectators should set up and store goals.

U5-U6 fields have a white locked "net box" what contains the flags and cones for the game. These boxes are chained to a nearby tree or fence.

All other age groups have a locked "net box" that will have a key lock to secure the items. Coaches have the key. Goals are usually located near the "net box' and are also chained to a nearby tree or fence. Coaches have the key or combination (which ever is appropriate). Inside the net boxes are nets and flags for the fields in that location. The

Goal Store - The parents on the last game of the day for the field they are on (if no one is waiting to play, consider your game the last of the day and store the goals).

Goals MUST be staked down! For more safety information from the US Government for goals, please click here and read. Here is another resource.

Please make sure to lock up goals. Lock up flags, nets, etc. into the lock boxes and LOCK the box when ever it is not actively being used. SAFETY first for the kids playing about those boxes, please! THANKS!

PLEASE do not tape nets to goal bars. This severely shortens the lifespan of the goals and nets. Report missing goal clips or velcro strips for replacement. Should you need to report missing or damaged items, please do so right away so corrections can be done as soon as possible.

EQUIPMENT

LYSL has some equipment available to coaches. Some we lend and do not ask for back, other items we need returned at the end of the season.

Balls for practice and a single game ball are provided to coaches at the beginning of the season to the coach. Each coach, at his own discretion may hand the balls out to the players or keep them for next year. ONLY defective balls are replaced by the league, missing or lost balls are not.

Size 3: used for U5-8 players

Size 4: used for U9-12 players

Size 5: used for U13-19 players

Discs are available to coaches for practices. We request that they be returned to the league at the end of the playing season for other coaches next year that need them.

Goalie Jerseys for U8 and above teams are available in limited supply. A coach may check out a jersey for the season to be returned at the end of the season.

Keys for Net Containers are available. We request that they be returned to the league at the end of the playing season for other coaches next year that need them.

 FIELD COMMITTEE [updated 12-Nov-2006]

What is going on about field improvements? Are we getting more fields to play on? What about a sports park for the entire city? How can I really help?

Field improvements happen when the Livermore Area Recreation and Parks Department budget is available and the priority list of projects includes them. There is a long list of priority for the great number of ?customers? of the parks and fields. Throughout the year, LYSL provides a list of request and reports of improvements and issues that need to be addressed. We have even discussed allotting fund from our field accounts for major improvements to Robertson Park that a lot of the league members benefit from using.

There is a big demand for a sports complex that could be used to serve a number of local interests in our city. Several people at LARPD, including Steve Goodman, are publicly asking if there is interest in pursuing options outside of a house development project to get the resources to build such a multi-use park. A potential bond measure has been brought up as one option. LYSL MEMBERS NEED TO BACK THIS KIND OF ACTION! Scott Kamena chairs the LARPD Sports Committee that several other LYSL board members attend, including the President, to keep our league?s needs and desires well represented. However, all members need to voice their opinions also. Emails, phone calls, letters, attending public meetings are all ways each member can help make it clear that there is more support for the needs of the league than the 2-4 people they see each meeting.

Sports complexes do not happen over night. They take years of voicing strong support repeatedly, budget, planning, and consistent presence and representation from the citizens and local users (that is us!) to see something accomplished. LYSL continues to work with our local youth and adult sports add to our message.

When communicating these agencies and people, please be clear and professional at all times to best get your message across. Constructive opinion and clear directions work best. Everyone wants to help, but our representatives need to hear directly from the people to understand what is important to them. LARPD is going through a big master planning revision and your feedback now carries a lot of weight!

Regular LARPD meetings are held at Robert Livermore Community Center, 4444 East Ave. 7pm on second and last Wednesday of the month. These are public meeting and have time in the beginning to voice your public opinion. The LARPD meeting agendas published online at http://www.larpd.dst.ca.us/meetings.html. Meetings are recorded by CTV30 and televised later. Check http://www.tv30.org for schedule.

Fields are a vital resource in youth soccer. Without them there is no place to hold a game. LSYL is working diligently with our Livermore Area Recreation & Park District (LARPD) to give the kids a safe and fun environment to play soccer. Towards that end, the league has a number of initiatives that it is actively working on:

  • Efficient use existing fields

  • Improving existing fields

  • Find more available space

  • Help get Livermore a sports complex

You might have read some recent newspaper articles referring to some improvements we are working with LARPD on for major improvements to Roberson Park. The improvements will benefit the players with improved space for games, practice, and training. House and High Comp players will be able to share more and better field space together.

However, this is only one thing we are actively making progress on. By using our fields efficiently (such as rotation off of worn fields so they can rest and repair) and assisting in field improvement, we create better playing conditions with what we have already have access to. By providing our experienced knowledge as well as fundraising assistance we can also add value to existing and hopefully new fields.

Yes, Livermore is one of the few cities around that does not have its own Sports Complex. LYSL is activity working with LARPD and the other Youth and Adult leagues in the city to make a Sports Complex a reality! We are far from seeing the dream come true, but the last few years there has been forward progress. We could use more help!

As things evolve, look to this space for more information. We appreciate any help you can provide, so please feel free to contact us with what you can do to help the league's field situation improve.
