Livermore Youth Soccer is excited to announce its partnership
the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA)! This program
is aligned with our goals and hopes for this league. Winning in
Life and Winning on the Field. The workshops will help us make
some positive and necessary changes LYSL needs.
The league has
arranged for the following two hour workshops to benefit our
members. I have personally had two of these in the past two
years at the Annual President's workshop and found them very
valuable. These are mandatory for the audiences listed as they
bring the entire program together on a common goal. Please help
make these workshops a success and expect to be attending. Our
members funded this program so that we can all provide an
improve experience for the kids.
During 2005, the league's Full Board attended the "Leadership"
workshop. Every Head Coach was required to attend the
"Double-Goal Coach" workshop. The Team Parent for each team was
given the "Sport Parent" workshop. Each workshop was 2 hours.

The Positive Coaching Alliance is a
non-profit with the motto "Transforming Youth Sports So
Youth Sports Can Transform". Positive Coaching Alliance was
established at Stanford University in 1998. PCA believes
that winning is a goal in youth sports but that there is a
second, more important goal of using sports to teach life
lessons through positive coaching.
PCA Mission:
Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is a
nonprofit organization based at Stanford University with the
mission to transform youth sports so sports can transform
youth. PCA was created to transform the culture of youth
sports to give all young athletes the opportunity for a
positive, character-building experience.
We have three national goals:
- To replace the "win-at-all-cost"
model of coaching with the "Double-Goal Coach" who wants
to win but has a second, more important, goal of using
sports to teach life lessons;
- To teach youth sports
organization leaders how to create an organizational
culture in which Honoring the Game is the norm; and
- To spark and fuel a "social
epidemic" of Positive Coaching that will sweep this
country.
There are many people in this nation who
want to change the culture of youth sports, but they do not
feel equipped to do so. Positive Coaching Alliance has
developed practical tools to change the culture of youth
sports and is making them available to coaches, parents,
league organizers and others who will fire this movement.
Zero Tolerance for Abuse of Referees has been a policy
in District III and LYSL since September 10, 2001 and is
enforced.
