COACH OF THE YEAR 2006 - The Executive Board of LYSL is proud to announce that our selection for Coach of the Year is David Schlientz. David was nominated by his U14 Girls team and to date; we have not seen such an active support group of a coach! He received many letters of support that clearly outlined their respect and admiration for his coaching skills.

A native of Livermore and former LYSL player himself, Dave has given back to his community in many ways, including coaching many of our kids (boys and girls) for years out of the sheer love of the game. Some standout comments about David from his team included outlining his coaching that "kindles a love for the game and a passion for the sport", "he does not yell at us from the sidelines", and "not just a coach, but an awesome player also". Every parent and player that sent in their support indicated that the player was always learning something new. One parent noted that David made sure that all players had the opportunity to score, and most did. The words "integrity" and "sportsmanship" were used by everyone that wrote to us about him. Dave is also active in adult league soccer. Focused on "team" has earned David the most praise over time.

Thank you to Coach Dave's Assistant Coach Drew Betts for driving the nomination process for the team.

Since David is the LYSL Coach of the Year and holds an "E" coaching license, we nominated Coach Schlientz to CYSA District III as the District Girls Coach of the Year.

Congratulations, David! We are proud to have you as a member and a coach in the league!

Coach Schlientz was presented with his award of recognition at the LYSL Full Board meeting on December 12, 2006, 7:30pm at the Mountain Mike's Pizza on First Street. The room was filled with supportive team parents, players, and the two Assistant Coaches he particularly thanked for their support, Drew Betts, and Robert Felicitas..

Livermore Youth Soccer League is proud to announce the 2005 Coaches of the Year! The decision was difficult as all each candidate had great support from their teams.

  • Dean Shepherd for 2005 Boys Coach

Dean coaches both a girls and a boys team. It was the boy's team that nominated Dean this year. They sited his positive motivation of these young players and his dedication to the game. They specifically noted his  Positive Coaching Alliance principles. Dean has an "E" CYSA Coach License and has been accepted as the District III Girls Coach of the Year. The District nominations have been submitted for consideration as CYSA State Coach of the Year.

  • Rick Lovoi for 2005 Girls Coach

Rick was nominated by his team for practicing what he preaches, being encouraging to this team and providing positive reinforcement to his players. He takes the time to teach both experienced and inexperienced players. Win or lose, he always give each player credit for their accomplishments. One of his player recognized that he was full of energy. Rick has been coach in our league for 5 years.

  • Larry Phillips for 2005 Runner Up for Boys Coach

Larry is an outstanding coach that received wonderful comments from his team that nominated him this year. Coincidently, the night after our Exec Board met to make our make the coaching selections, I happened to meet a coach where I was eating dinner. He talked about with enthusiasm about coaching his young boy's team. What impressed me most was his support and re-enforcement of the Positive Coaching Alliance principles. Each of his players know about ROOTs. His team noted his patience, upbeat, and ability to teach strategies to the kids were his main coaching strengths.

All three of these coaches will be receiving an award of recognition at the LYSL Full Board meeting on December 13, 2005, 7:30pm at the Tri-Valley Church on East Avenue.
