NEWS

  • SCHOOLS - LYSL and the school district work closely to work out potential school sites that teams may practice on. Each school has a significant say in what teams are allowed to do or not, so please respect the boundaries.

  • SCRIMMAGES - With nearly 3000 players, field usage by LYSL is massive. To provide space for practices, games, and clinics, we work closely with LARPD and LVUSD to obtain field permits.  Should you need a field permit for a scrimmage, please contact LARPD at 925-373-5702.

  • FIELD PRIORITIES - Scheduled games have priority over scrimmages and practices.  [click here for field priority policy] Goals on the field are not to be used for practices or impromptu scrimmages. Scheduled games and scheduled scrimmages are assigned to specific fields.

Practices are where ever there is space on public LARPD parks [click here for LARPD field locations]. There is not age group associated with any particular fields except when schedules games happen.

  • FIELD/EQUIPMENT PROBLEMS - Please report field and equipment problems such as  missing corner flags or nets, goal damage, goals left out (that you can not put away yourself), locks missing/broken to the Director of Operations at operations@lysl.org.

WEATHER IN LIVERMORE

What Do You Do If It Rains?

BEFORE THE GAME: Call the LARPD Field Status line at 925-373-5702, 1#. This information is updated by 8am on weekend, 2pm on weekdays if change occurs.

If the line says the playing fields are closed, then the practice or game is off for the day. If the signs on the field say "closed" the field is closed. If the referee (or coaches of games without referees) abandon the game because it is unsafe, the game is off. SAFETY FIRST! Your coach will discuss the matter with the House AGC or High Comp Rep about what comes next

Open/Closed status can change at any time, but once closed, they are closed the rest of the day.

If the sign on the field and/or the turf line notes that the fields are "closed", the field may NOT be played on. Teams must respect field closures for the long term health of the field for everyone's use.

If turf hot line message does not agree with the park signage (one says closed but the other does not) then the fields are still closed and may NOT be played on. Failure to respect the indicated field closure status can cause excessive wear and serious long term damage to the condition of the playing surface. This could adversely affect the future availability of the field for everyone's use. Please help us to work with the Park District as responsible community partners by only using fields that are designated as OPEN.

DURING THE GAME: If at anytime the referee (or field monitor/coaches for U5-U8 games) consider the conditions unsafe, the game will be abandoned. Your coach will discuss the matter with the House AGC or High Comp Rep about what comes next.

LARPD Field Status: 925-373-5702, 1# (updated around 2pm each day)

Fields We Practice and Play On

All fields come under the authority of either LARPD or LVUSD.

All fields used by teams must be shared by all teams present. It is not first come, first served as much as moving over to make room for other teams with equal space. No team has priority over another, even if one team is in a "higher" division than another. They are all kids and all citizens of the city has the same right to field access on public grounds. Practices can happen in less room than a full sized field. Please be considerate of other teams.

LARPD PARKS

The majority of the practice field space utilized by LYSL teams is managed by the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD).  The LARPD fields can be located on their website at http://www.larpd.dst.ca.us/map.html.

LARPD uses a park classification system that defines the requirements for their use by user groups such as LYSL.

Neighborhood Parks – Most neighborhoods parks are available for use as practice space on a shared use basis.  Reservations and use permits are not required.  The supply of open practice space is limited city wide in comparison to the demand so please be considerate of others’ needs with the amount of space used to conduct your practice.  We all need to share the available space.  Additional information about the various park facilities can be obtained by visiting LARPD’s website (http://www.dist.larpd.ca.gov)

The following park facilities are classified as Neighborhood Parks (note that not all neighborhood parks have sufficient space or facilities to support practice so please stop by and check on a park by park basis prior to arranging any practices there):

Al Caffodio

Hagemann

Northfront

Almond

Ida Holm

Pleasure Island

Altamont Creek

Jack Williams

Ralph T. Wattenburger

Notes:

*   Christensen Park is reserved and permitted for use by the High Comp program from early June through the start of the House fall season matches in late August.  Recreation teams should not use these fields during these months, Monday through Thursday, 4:00pm-8:30pm.

**  El Padro Neighborhood Park is reserved for use by another group and is not available for soccer practice use.

Community Park Sport Fields and Special Use Parks -
Community Park sport fields and Special Use Parks are typically not available for regular practice.  Reservations and use permits are required to use these facilities and are required to be in your physical possession at the time of use.  Should you attempt to use these spaces, LARPD park staff may likely ask to see your permit.  If you do not have a permit, even if lost or forgotten at home, and park staff asks you to vacate the facility, you must comply.  These rules apply to all user groups, so please set the example that LYSL teams play by the rules.

The following park facilities are classified as Community Parks and Special Use Parks:

May Nissen Park

Max Baer

Robert Livermore Park

Robertson Park ‘Inside the Fence’

Independence Park / Kellman Fields

Robertson Park Unfenced Grass Area
Robertson Park 'the Meadow'

General Rules For Park Sites

·         Please pick up all trash and place in the trash cans.

·         Please use the recycle bins when available.

·         Alcohol and Tobacco Products are prohibited at all times.

·         The open/closed status of all parks is available via the LARPD Turf Hotline (925) 373-5702

·         ‘Fields Closed’ signs are to be obeyed, even if conflicting with the turf hotline message.

LVJUSD SCHOOL FIELDS

Another valuable source of practice field space is LVJUSD school facilities. The school district has made several school fields available to our community for soccer practice use this year without a permit.  Similar to LARPD, the District does permit these sites for use by individuals and groups at various times.  Permits are issued for specific field spaces and specific times and dates (or time and date ranges).  If you find that another user group has secured a permit for the use of the school field you typically practice on, you must honor that reservation and relocate to available space that is not reserved.  School facility use permits can be secured by submitting a school facilities use application, providing the required forms of insurance coverage, and paying the appropriate fees through LVJUSD’s Community Services. Use permit information can be obtained at the District website (http://lvusd.ca.schoolloop.com/)

The following school fields are available for practice this year without a permit requirement:

SUNSET SCHOOL

ALMOND AVENUE (No parking on black top.)

MARYLIN AVE

ARROYO MOCHO

ARROYO SECO

DEL VALLE (Can be used only when no LHS Girls Softball activity is going on.)

Again, the use of the school field practice space is a shared use basis.

General Rules For School Sites

·         Available Monday-Friday, 4pm-8pm (until dark).

·         Please pick up all trash and place in the trash cans or pack it out.

·         Please use the recycle bins when available.

·         Alcohol and Tobacco Products are prohibited at all times.

Please make sure to lock up goals. Lock up flags, nets, etc. into the lock boxes and LOCK the box when ever it is not actively being used.
SAFETY first for the kids playing about those boxes, please! THANK YOU!

Turf Conditions

Open/Closed Status

The "Open" or "Closed" state of the fields (LARPD and LVJUSD) regarding availability for soccer is communicated in a variety of ways. Remember that if a field is closed, it is not always due to rain or other obvious reasons. Please note that if LARPD closes all their fields, the school must be considered closed also.

If LARPD closes the fields, they are likely to do so before the first scheduled game, but it could be later in the day, as the weather changes.

Field Signs - Most LARPD fields have signs that indicate the "FIELDS OPEN" or "FIELDS CLOSED " . If sign shows FIELDS CLOSED, no activities are permitted on the fields, including practices and games.

Website - The LARPD Turf web page (http://www.larpd.dst.ca.us/turf.html) is updated all the time.

Phone Message - Recorded outgoing messages for the fields is updated all the time.

LARPD Turf phone line: 925-373-5702, 1#  (updated around 2pm)

Referee Determination on the Field - Even if the fields are open, if the game referee deems unsafe conditions, the game is cancelled. Safety of the players comes first.

Rainout and Cancellation of Game Policy

Should a game be cancelled for any reason, check the Standard Operating Procedures for determination of the outcome of the game.

    Maintenance

Should the fields require attention for safety, vandalism or other reasons, please contact the appropriate agency.
