Recreational Program Information

Overview

The Recreational Program is devoted to the enjoyment of the game in a recreational environment without the emphasis of higher level of competition and time commitment. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for the participant to have fun, learn the sport and develop life skills including a life long love of the game.

Teams are grouped by age categories from U5-U19 independent of skill level or natural talent and ability. Typically the season training starts in July followed by internal club league play in September through November. All coaches are parent volunteers.

Program Guidelines

PLAYER BEHAVIOR ON THE FIELD - If a player, usually younger ones, are not fully participating with the team, seem distracted and unwilling to play, cry all the time, hits others, there might be something going on that the parent needs to be aware of and address. The club supports its coaching and their great volunteerism to coach the players. The coaches have a responsibility to coach the players. While they can help with small issues off the field of play, it is expected that parents will address issues of basic commitment and behavior with their child. If the coach can help, please offer suggestions. Everyone's goal is a positive and fun time for everyone!

Fusion SC games are officiated under the FIFA Laws of the Game. Fusion SC and the Livermore Referee Association (LRA) meet to review special modifications for the Recreational programs. The links below will outline the modification for U5, U6, U7, U8, and U10. There are no modifications for U11 and above.

Please note that the CYSA Team Manual the coaches receive each year contains some rule guidelines that the leagues may or may not use. The rules we use are listed below.

  • Rules of the Game for U5
  • Rules of the Game for U6
  • Rules of the Game for U7
  • Rules of the Game for U8
  • Rules of the Game for U9 & U10
Please note that in the end, the referee's judgment and decision on the field is final, regardless of CYSA or Fusion SC rules or guidelines.

U9-U10 Referee Program

Historically, referee staffing levels have not supported proper officiating of the U9-U10 House team matches.  This is true for Fusion SC as well as every other soccer league in the Tri-Valley area without a mandatory referee program.  This happens because referee coverage is prioritized from the top down based on age groups and competitive division to correspond with managing the greatest risk of injury and conflict. This year, Fusion SC is pleased to announce a new program aimed at addressing this short-fall in referee coverage for these age groups.

Under the new mandatory U9-U10 Referee Program, all U9-U10 Recreational teams will provide (a minimum of) two adult volunteers who will successfully complete the USSF Grade 9 Referee training course offered by LRA (Livermore Referee Association) and fully paid for by Fusion SC. These volunteers will be required to officiate any match that counts towards league standings.

The club paid course fee will also include each graduate referee's first year USSF license fee.  The schedule for the summer course offerings will be posted in the coming weeks.  We plan to make the classes convenient and they are always informative. Fusion SC will also provide a starter referee uniform kit (including a yellow short sleeve jersey, black shorts, socks and a game record wallet)  at no charge to each Grade 9 class graduate of this program.

These team referee volunteers will provide a valuable service for the transitional U9-U10 divisions and fill-out a full complement of volunteers for each team just like the coach, team manager, publicity person, etc.  These are the first age groups where the Laws Of The Game become more fully enforced, including the widely misunderstood Law 11 (Offsides), and where official scores and standings are kept.  Having 100% coverage for these age groups ensures that the rules are enforced fairly and that the matches are safe for the players.  Attention to fairness and safety in order to ensure the players' enjoyment of the game are the referees’ primary responsibility.

Fusion SC and LRA staff will attend 2010 match play in the U9 and U10 age groups to support the successful implementation of this program.

Additional information regarding this program will be posted on this page in the coming weeks.

How to Submit Team Publicity

Your team's game information can be submitted for publication in one of Livermore's three local newspapers. To submit your information, please read the following instructions.

REMINDERS:

  • All information is required by NOON on Sunday at the latest to make newspaper publication deadlines. No exceptions! If it is not in on time, your information may not be submitted to the papers for that week.
  • Game results must include results for BOTH TEAMS. The newspapers and the league want the results for both teams. If only one team is turned in, the information will not be submitted.
    • To do this, the team publicity people should locate each other and introduce themselves before the start of the game. If a publicity person is not available, the coach or assistant-coach will act as back-up.  Decide who will be sending in the report - typically this is the Home team, but it can be the Visitors. Then meet up and compare notes and player name spellings after the game.
    • Do not capitalize the complete team names or player names. Only capitalize the first letters of the word. (Title Case).
    • Check your spelling. This information will not be checked for spelling errors before it is submitted to the paper. Be especially careful to spell the players names correctly.

Once you have submitted your team publicity, the results will be submitted to the three local papers within the week.

  • Tri-Valley Herald - Fusion SC Publicity Results are published in the Wednesday edition in the back of the Sports Section.
  • The Independent - Fusion SC Publicity Results are published in the Thursday edition in the Sports Notes section.
  • The Valley Times - Fusion SC Publicity Results are published in the Friday edition in the Home Town section.
