FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

3:00pm, Friday, August 27, 2010

On Thursday, August 26, 2010 Livermore Youth Soccer League received notification from the Livermore Police Department, that LYSL volunteer coach David Garrison had been arrested on suspicion of possession and distribution of child pornography.  Everyone at LYSL is stunned and saddened by this news.

In accordance with LYSL policy, Mr. Garrison's coaching privileges have been revoked effective immediately and he will not be permitted to participate in league activities.

Child safety is the top priority at LYSL.  The League moved quickly to arrange a meeting with the team parents to address this most serious situation and we will make every effort to support players and family members in this difficult time.

LYSL Personnel and Coaching Policies

In 2009 the League implemented its own mandatory background check policy and process for all coaches and board members. Our hundreds of adult coach and administrative staff members must pass screening for suitability to work with our children through the Livescan fingerprint record background check process that is verified with the State of California Department of Justice Criminal Database.  Mr. Garrison was cleared to participate in league activity through this process.

LYSL is both saddened and shocked by these events and remains determined to be vigilant in providing the safest learning and playing environment possible for our children.

Anyone with any additional information on this matter should contact Sergeant Paul Mayer at the Livermore Police Department (925) 371-4733.
